Jess: well I didn’t think you would talk to me after 5 years ago, but hey here we are.
Lorelai: you know your pretty funny I should have paid attention to some of the stuff you said.

Jess: hey Lorelai?
Lorelai: yeah?
Jess: I can see why you and Rory are best friends.
Lorelai smiles.
Lorelai: and I can see why she loves you.

Lorelai: what are you thinking?
Rory: well right now my heart is saying Jess, but my brain is saying Logan.
Lorelai: well you called the right person for this; I’ve been in this same situation.
Rory: well?
Lorelai: well Logan has broken your heart how many times?
Rory: well 2 times definitely, but I don’t know if crying on the bathroom floor counts.
Lorelai: no, that just means you like the bathroom floor to cry.
Rory: okay then 2.
Lorelai: and what are those 2?
Rory: when he cheated on me, and when I said no to his proposal, it hurt me too.
Lorelai: okay, now how many times has Jess broke your heart?
Rory: well 3 times.
Lorelai: and those would be.
Rory: well he left while we we’re going out, he left after he said he loved me, and when he left like 6 years ago, I’m not really sure why anymore.
Lorelai: well your brain is saying Logan cause he is the safer catch, but your heart is saying Jess cause you love him.
Rory: but I love Logan too.
Lorelai: well hun I’m not really sure what to tell you, I just figured out why your brain is saying Logan, but you got to figure out why your heart is saying Jess, and who you want to be with, cause you can’t keep dragging all these boys along.
Rory: I know.

Rory runs to the front door opens it up and runs to her room. She opens the door very quietly. She looks at Logan, and smiles. She goes over to the bed, and lies down next to him.
Rory: Merry Christmas.
Logan yawns.
Logan: well aren’t we bright eyed and bushy tailed.
Rory: yes we are.
Logan and Rory kiss.

Luke and Lorelai are asleep. Lorelai’s alarm goes off. Lorelai turns it off.
Lorelai: IT’S TIME TO OPEN PRESENTS!!!!
Lorelai jumps out of bed.
Luke: what?
Lorelai: IT’S TIME TO OPEN PRESENTS!!!!
Luke: you need an alarm for that?
Lorelai runs down the stairs, to Rory’s room.
Lorelai: GET UP YOU TWO, ITS TIME TO OPEN PRESENTS!!
Rory looks at Logan.
Rory: that’s my mom for you.
Tristan walks in the front door.
Lorelai: where have you been?
Tristan: I sort of fell asleep at Dean’s house.
Lorelai: you what?
Tristan: yeah I know, I’m just as shocked as you are.
Lorelai: okay well WE‘RE OPENING PRESENTS.
Paris and Doyle knock on the door. Rory and Logan are going into the living room.
Rory: I got it.
Rory answers the door.
Rory: hey you guys.
Doyle: hey.
Paris: Merry Christmas.
Rory: Merry Christmas to you too.
Doyle and Paris come in.
Paris: hey how’d it go?
Doyle: how’d what go?
Paris: girl talk.
Doyle: oh okay.
Doyle walks off.
Rory: man you guys make such a good couple.
Paris: I always did wear the pants in any relationship.
Rory: and how many we’re those “any”?
Paris: hey now, it’s Christmas, lets not judge Paris, lets judge Rory.
Rory: oh great.
Paris: so how’d it go?
Rory: too much too little time.
Paris: we spent all that time talking about my relationships, when we could have been talking about yours.
Rory: that’s just they way it goes.
Rory and Paris walk into the living room. There’s a knock at the door.
Lorelai: Rory would you get that?
Rory: sure.
Rory answers the door. She’s surprised by who she sees.
Rory: Jess hey.
Jess: Hi Rory.
There’s a moments of silence.
Rory: Merry Christmas.
Jess: Yeah ...yeah, Merry Christmas.
Rory: Come in.
Jess walks in.
Rory (sarcastic): your just in time, my mom was about to start the fireworks.
Jess: your mom really loves Christmas doesn’t she?
Rory: yeah, it’s her favorite holiday.
Jess smiles. Lorelai comes to the door.
Lorelai: hey Jess.
Jess: hey Lorelai.
Lorelai: it’s good to see you.
Jess: you too.
Rory: you can sit in the living room Jess, we’re about to…
Lorelai: OPEN PRESENTS!!!!
Jess chuckles.
Rory: when did you two become so buddy, buddy?
Lorelai: I didn’t know we we’re all “buddy buddy”
Rory: oh save it, what do you two know that I don’t?
Lorelai: what’s that Luke? You need me? Coming darling.
Rory: mom you can’t use the fake call.
Lorelai: watch me.

A FEW HOURS LATER

Lorelai: okay so who’s hungry?
Luke: I think I speak for everyone here, we all are.
Lorelai: well how would you know?
Luke: well being woke up at 6 am this morning we all would, I stand corrected we all are.
Lorelai: fine, you already said that.
Luke: we are, we can go to the diner.
Everyone gets up.
Doyle: Paris and I will take my car.
Doyle and Paris leave.
Luke: well if America is being attacked those two aren’t taking any passengers with them out of the America.
Jess: I have room.
Lorelai: Luke can we use your truck, I forget to fill up.
Luke: yeah, or is there Christmas stuff that you we’re hiding in your car so I didn’t think you we’re weird?
Lorelai: I don’t even know how you could say that.
Luke (chuckling): we have room for one.
Logan looks at Rory.
Logan: I’ll go with Luke and Lorelai you go with Jess and Tristan.
Rory: you sure?
Logan: yeah.
Logan and Rory start to kiss.
Jess: I’ll be out in the car.
Tristan: shotgun, just so you know Rory.
Jess and Tristan leave.
Rory: Jess. Wait. Come back.
Lorelai: I got it.
Luke: you know what I got it, I haven’t had it in a long while, someone else named Lorelai Gilmore has had it.
Lorelai: what can I say I’m starting to take after Paris.
Logan: oh no! Everyone take shelter.
Everyone laughs. Luke leaves.
Lorelai: well I’m going to go………….get into the truck hurry Logan, we’re going to beat Paris.
Logan: is that possible.
Lorelai: if you and Rory would spare the “oh your going to Iraq? Please don’t. You have to? I understand. I love you, and I always will.” goodbye every time. We would.
Logan kisses Rory on the cheek.
Logan: bye Ace have fun in Iraq.
Rory and Lorelai giggle.
Lorelai: ready Freddie.
Logan: ready Paris Jr.
Lorelai gasp. They both laugh.

Luke: you sure you okay?
Jess: yes Luke. I’m fine.
Luke: you didn’t seem fine back there.
Jess: but I’m fine, nothing to worry about.
Luke: well this 10-minute car ride may just kill you.
Jess: thanks Uncle Luke.
Luke: I need to know what colors do you want the funeral?
Jess: oh you know red and black ACDC signs everywhere, make a party out of it.
Tristan laughs in the back seat.
Luke: I thought you we’re sitting shotgun?
Tristan hits the back of the seat.
Tristan: yeah, me too.
Luke smiles at Jess then at Tristan.
Luke: you’ll like your funeral, I’ll make sure Rory sits front row.
Jess honks the horn.
Luke: that’s the way to a girl’s heart right there.
Jess: RORY LETS GO!!! WE GOT TO BEAT THE 3 WISE MEN OVER HERE.
Rory: coming sorry.
Rory gets in.
Luke: you kids be safe.
Rory: Luke you do know that it is only a 10 minute car ride, at the most.
Luke: oh yeah I know.
Rory (confused): okay?
Rory looks at Tristan.
Rory: I thought you we’re sitting shotgun?
Tristan: well Bonnie ask your man Clyde.
Luke laughs.
Luke: that’s a good one Tristan I didn’t even think of Bonnie and Clyde.
Jess: we’re out of here.
Jess starts the car.
Luke: don’t being robbing any banks.
Jess drives off.
Rory: what was all that about?
Jess: nothing.
Tristan: oh it was something.
Jess: Tristan I haven’t known you very long, but how would you like to be hitchhiking your way to Luke’s?
Tristan: well if I tell Bonnie what’s going on, it might be worth it Clydey Boy.
Jess: alright.
Jess stops the car.
Jess: out you go.
Tristan: I was kidding dude.
Jess: come on, out you go.
Tristan: Jess seriously?
Jess (sarcastic): no dude I’m joking.
Tristan (chuckling): good, I was thinking you we’re serious there for a minute.
Jess: I am, now get out.
Tristan: it’s snowing.
Jess: and the award goes to Captain Obvious.
Tristan: I’ll freeze
Jess: you can get there in 3 minutes.
Jess turns around and gives Tristan the eye.
Tristan: I don’t know why I should; I have just as good a chance with Bonnie as you.
Jess gives the look again.
Tristan: fine you better be glad I like you better than Dean.
Jess smiles. Tristan gets out.
Tristan: could you at least tell me which direction I’m suppose to go in?
Jess looks around.
Jess: that one.
Tristan: thank you, you better get her Clyde.
Jess starts to drive off.
Rory: okay, you need to fill me in, I know your not really talking to me, and I wouldn’t ask you to, but there’s no one else in here besides you since you kicked Tristan out, so what’s going on?
Jess keeps driving.
Rory: of course your not going to tell me.
They sit in silence for a minute.
Rory: you know this is worse than when you came like I don’t know 4 years ago devoted your love to me then took off right there in front of my eyes.
Jess sits there.
Rory: okay now I’m worried, could you just give me sign?
Jess waves to her.
Rory: oh so I get a wave.
Rory sees Taylor walking by the gazebo yelling at Kirk, she waves. Taylor doesn’t see. He continues to yell at Kirk.
Rory: you see that Jess, that’s not a sign.
Rory stares at Jess then sees the sign for Luke’s.
Rory: oh good, at least people acknowledge me in here.
Jess drives by.
Rory: okay I know you can’t hear me, but we just passed Luke’s.
Jess: I know.
Rory: so you can hear?
Jess: yeah I can hear?
Rory: then why weren’t you talking?
Jess: I don’t know.
Rory: you never know.
Jess: I’m sorry, I really am.
Rory: for what?
Jess: what do you mean “for what”?
Rory: I mean what are you sorry for?
Jess: do I not have anything to apologize for.
Rory: that’s it, you have so much stuff to apologize for which one of those are you marking off the list?
Jess doesn’t say anything.
Rory: sorry Jess, that was uncalled for.
Jess: no it wasn’t.
Rory: what?
Jess: I have so much stuff to apologize for, some stuff I probably don’t remember, and I’m sorry for that, so I’m you going to give you a big apology and I was wondering would you let it make up for all of those times I need to apologize for?
Jess stares at Rory. Rory looks at Jess.
Rory: on one condition.
Jess: alright, lets hear it.
Rory: Jess, I do love you, I love you a lot, I loved you when we we’re going out, I loved you after we are going out, and I love you now, I probably will always love you. But I love Logan too.
Jess: I know that.
Rory: but I love you both in different ways.
Jess: and I’m stuck in the friend zone.
Rory: not necessarily, but in a way.
Jess: how is it in a way Rory, your either in or your out.
Rory: that’s it Jess, your not in the friend zone, but your not out of it.
They sit in silence.
Rory: I can’t think of a way to word this, umm……..okay so you know Shane right?
Jess: that girl I messed around with like 5 or 6 years ago.
Rory: yeah her.
Jess: yeah what about her?
Rory: when you two we’re together, I know she was a magnet to make me jealous, but you secretly, I’m saying secretly, liked her a little bit, or you would have found someone else you liked a little bit.
Jess: so your saying your using Logan to make me jealous?
Rory: no, no, no, no. That’s not it. You liked Shane, just a little bit, you did, and when you liked her, I was in the halfway friend zone, you liked me, but you liked Shane too. It may have only been a little bit, but you did like her.
Jess: Rory, I’ve never stopped liking you.
Rory: that’s not it.
Jess: then what is.
Rory: just listen okay, no offences taken okay?
Jess: okay.
Rory: Logan wouldn’t be able to live without me, but you would.
Jess: I’m not that strong Rory. I wouldn’t be able to…….
Rory: Most people are stronger than they know. They just forget to believe in it sometimes.
They sit there for a moment.
Rory: let me put it in better words, you and Logan give me different thoughts, if something between me and Logan went down, lets say I cheat, he couldn’t move on, I mean yeah he would hook up with a random chick each night, but never again would he have a serious relationship, I know it, I can feel it, I‘ve seen the way he was before me. Now if you and I we’re together, and I we’re to cheat on you, I think you could move on, I think you could get a steady girlfriend and live you life Jess. You showed me that, I mean not the girlfriend part but, how you can live your life. You wrote a book. Some people may not appreciate that, but I do, I think that is amazing.
They sit there in silence.
Rory: They say you don’t need someone you can’t live without, you need someone who can’t live without you.
Jess: so your with Logan, cause your protecting him? Because he can’t live without you?
Rory: I guess, I mean when you love someone, you protect them don’t you?
Jess: yeah.
Rory: I just I mean if I were with you, I wouldn’t be protecting you, you would be protecting me.
Jess: would that be so bad?
Rory: it’s one of those halfway things.
Jess: again?
Rory: yes again.
They sit there. Jess starts to laugh. Rory stares at him, and starts to laugh too.
Jess (chuckling): I don’t ever get your halfway things so I’m not going to ask but one question. Do I have a chance?
Rory: Jess, I’ve loved you once, I love you still, and I’ll love you until the day I die.
Jess: I guess you don’t really need to put a yes or no on any of that.
Rory: so here’s my condition.
Jess: what was all that.
Rory: I’m not sure I think that maybe it put us on lighter terms or maybe I don’t know, but you didn’t wreck the car, which I thought that was going to happen when we passed Luke’s.
Jess: you only put that much faith in me Rory Gilmore?
Rory: no Jess Mariano, I put a lot of faith in you, I mean I kind of always thought you were just looking for a little faith, but now you have it.
Jess: but it never hurts to have it be shown again.
Rory and Jess smile.
Jess: alright so lets hear this condition of yours.
Rory: okay, after all that we’ve said right here right now, you have to stay my friend.
Jess: that’s a silly condition for a pretty big apology.
Rory: no, it’s not. In your life you‘re going to go to some great places, and you’re going to do some wonderful things. You‘re going to meet awesome people. You’ll probably say good-bye to a few. But you’ll keep a few too. You’ll cry with them. You’ll laugh with them. You’ll smile with them. But no matter where you go or who you become, this place will always be with you, and so will I.
They sit in silence. Jess drives in front of Luke’s a parks.
Jess: you know Rory that’s a pretty good condition.
Rory look at Jess. Jess looks at Rory.
Jess: I love you Rory.
Rory: I love you too Jess, friends forever?
Jess: yeah, friend until the end.
Jess and Rory hug.
Rory gets out of the car. Jess does the same. Logan and Lorelai come out to meet Rory.
Logan: hey Ace, did you have fun in Iraq?
Rory: oh yeah it was a ball.
Jess walks towards to the front door.
Lorelai: hey Jess?
Jess: yeah.
Lorelai: how’d it go?
Jess: it went well, but not like I planned.
Lorelai: nothing goes as planned, life is unpredictable, the important thing is not to be bitter over life’s disappointments. Learn to let go of the past, and recognize that every day won’t be sunny.
Jess: you and your daughter.
Lorelai giggles. Jess walks in the diner.
Lorelai (sort of sternly): alright you two, Rory was only at war for an hour hold it together son.
They all three laugh. Logan kisses Rory.
Rory: your mine forever.
